Meet Our Founder, Head Audiologist Rory Kewney

Silk Hearing was founded by Head Audiologist Rory Kewney, a qualified, registered audiologist with over twenty five years of experience in all aspects of hearing care. Rory is passionate about using his skills, knowledge and expertise to help local Macclesfield patients comfortably and quickly recover from pain, discomfort and balance problems caused by ear wax blockages.

Prior to establishing Silk Hearing, Rory was an audiology lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University and the Clinical Director of a national healthcare company. He believes in providing affordable, exceptional quality hearing care services that help the local community.

Silk Hearing supports the Deafness and Sensory Network, a charity in the North West and a percentage of all turnover is given to DSN.

Rory has also been on several Charity missions fitting hearing aids to people in developing countries who cannot access hearing care.

Earwax removal by irrigation
Irrigation/Syringing
We irrigate your ears to gently remove any wax build up, using a Pro-Pulse irrigator that delivers just the right amount of water at the right temperature and pressure through an angled probe. This procedure is safe, comfortable and effective, but is not recommended if you have had an ear infection, ear surgery or a perforated ear drum.

Earwax removal by hooking
Manual Removal
If the wax in your ear is very dry, we will recommend removal via manual hooking. This process involves using an endoscope or operating loupes or lit curettes to help us see into your ear canal, and then the wax is hooked out using forceps or an array of manual hooks and tools. This is a very gentle, comfortable and practically silent procedure.
